In the spring of 1996, changes were made in prevision of the economy and job industry colloquium made couple of days earlier in October of the same year. In the enthusiasm from the colloquium, an organisation called NAISSANCE-RENAISSANCE, four perinatal field community groups and the social economy built a project then validated with their principals partnerships such as, the ministry of Health and Social Services, the conference of Health and Social resources directories and the Quebec Association with CLSC-CHSLD before depositing it to the colloquium in October 1996.
The project about the economy employment in 1996, wanted to develop 15 perinatal resources centres (CRPs in the French acronym), on a period of 3 years, all across the province of Quebec.
During that time lapse, 10 perinatal resources centres (CRPs in the French acronym) gather with one goal in mind, forming the Quebec CRP network (Réseau des Centres de ressources périnatales du Québec, RCRPQ), with the mission of sharing their expertise, management tools and to assure the expansion of the CRP all throughout the province. RCRPQ is now the promoter of the CRP since September 1999.
In 2001, at the finish line of the project, 10 perinatal resources centres (CRPs) were formed and recognized by the ministry of Health and Social Services.
Nowadays, RCRPQ counts 28 CRPs in 16 regions of the province.
For 25 years, the Quebec CRP network (Réseau des Centres de ressources périnatales du Québec, RCRPQ):
Has overseen the growth and development of CRPs across Quebec.
Unites and supports CRPs and spreads the word about the good work they do.
Advocates for public policies that help all families in Quebec benefit from perinatal services every step of the way.
RCRPQ aspires TO :
- Being a huge piece of the puzzle in a province where all families have easy access to a multitude of perinatal services.
- Being a guide in the network and accompany resources and organisations that wish to develop themselves as CRPs in the near or far future.
- The expertise of his members be recognized as a luminary in the field.
- That all organisations known as CRPs receive the necessary amount of funding.
What is a Perinatal Resources Centre?
All throughout Quebec, perinatal resources centres (CRPs in the French acronym) are community-based agencies that offer perinatal activities and services for parents and future parents.
CRPs give parents a helping hand as they adjust to and transition through each new stage, from before conception, to pregnancy and birth and until their baby reaches the age of two.
Examples of activities and services
Each perinatal resources centre (CRP) has the autonomy to design the range of services it offers and tailor them to the needs of its region. These services help parents and parents-to-be shoulder their new roles, grow their knowledge, enjoy the perinatal experience and connect with their community.
- Presentations about pregnancy, birth and life with baby
- CPR and first aid
- Car seat safety check
- Documentation centre
- And more!
Present in 16 administrative regions of Quebec, perinatal resources centres (CRPs) are well-known and established non-profit organizations. To receive RCRPQ affiliation, CRPs must meet all the criteria required for the seal of recognition, which ensures that all CRPs offer the same high-quality services.
